I am a Marathon Finisher and will be participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011! Wooooo Hooooo! But staying on track with with eating, working out and short runs has been tough. I am clinging by my fingernails and toenails!
I’ve been out of town for graduations, working late, working on an editing project, recovering from a nasty tooth infection, volunteering, teaching, taking an online course, recovering from a cold, and on and on….leaving little time for the dedication needed for training. Just writing all this makes me go WHEW! I HAVE to get back on track! I MUST get back on track! Well besides talking about it, and thinking about it, I decided that I needed a theme song. I found it in a hit by Mandisa, entitled “Stronger”. Now the lyrics can work for many situations. That’s why I find them to be especially awesome. I’m applying them to running and if needed, I’ll use them for other areas. Here are the lyrics and the video:
Hey, heard you were up all night Thinking about how your world ain't right And you wonder if things will ever get better And you're asking why is it always raining on you When all you want is just a little good news Instead of standing there stuck out in the weather
Oh, don't hang your head It's gonna end God's right there Even if it's hard to see Him I promise you that He still cares
When the waves are taking you under Hold on just a little bit longer He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger The pain ain't gonna last forever And things can only get better Believe me This is gonna make you stronger Gonna make you stronger, stronger, stronger Believe me, this is gonna make you ...
Try and do the best you can Hold on and let Him hold your hand And go on and fall into the arms of Jesus Oh, lift your head it's gonna end God's right there Even when you just can't feel Him I promise you that He still cares
'Cause if He started this work in your life He will be faithful to complete it If only you believe it He knows how much it hurts And I'm sure that He's gonna help you get through this
When the waves are taking you under Hold on just a little bit longer He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger The pain ain't gonna last forever In time it's gonna get better Believe me This is gonna make you stronger
Excellent, right!. Ok, here we go again, now to music! Wooooo Hooooo!
As I blogged about before, I’ve joined the Kingdom Running Club (KRC) and will be participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011.
So for the past few months, we’ve met once a week to receive mind renewal teachings, gear and nutrition and other information. It’s been interesting, getting used to getting up early, by 7:30am, and applying the information. I’d looked over the schedule and had been thinking that I had plenty of time to mentally prepare for actually running. I mean, the schedule clearly indicated “Running on lakefront – April 30th”. Well imagine my surprise when I received the weekly KRC email on Wednesday March 23rd, which indicated that we were to arrive at 6:30am and be prepared to run around the mall where we meet on Saturday March 26th!. “Be ready to what?!” Aw man! I showed up slightly late but ready. After a stretch, we were off! I actually ran for a block or so, and then began to power walk. After a few minutes I ran again. And I went back and forth until I completed my one time around which was the equivalent of 1.2 miles. It was great AND awful! My thighs were sore for two days! But you know what, it’s all good, its official I’m on my way! Wooooo Hooooo!
I said WOOOOOO HOOOOOO! That is what I’ll be saying and hearing as I train to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011. As you train to do WHAT? That’s right, I AM A MARATHON FINISHER! This past Saturday was the first meeting for the Kingdom Running Club (KRC). KRC offers a 9-month program that educates and prepares members to run a marathon. The KRC purpose is – To teach individuals how to effectively prepare and to run a Marathon God’s way, solely relying on direction received from the Holy Spirit. Participants will be empowered to take methods and teachings endowed from God and to apply them to other areas of their lives.
Considering where I am with my health and where I want to go in life, how could I not take this next step? Running the marathon is not something that I want to do it is something that I have to do.
Our first homework assignment was to indicate why we want to run a marathon. Here’s my statement:
I’m running the marathon to take control of my physical health and to also make exercising and possibly running a permanent lifestyle change. For a number of years I’ve dealt with a chronic condition that can be controlled with diet and exercise. I’ve had ups and downs with controlling it but am now at a critical point in how the doctor would like to treat the disease. I know that God has healed me completely from this condition, so I run and change my eating habits as an act of faith. Several years ago, I attempted to train for and run the marathon, but did not follow all of the natural as well as spiritual directions and ended up dropping out half way through. I’m in a different place now in the natural and in the spirit and do not expect to encounter the same issues. I’m also running as a dedicated member of the Project Eden team. I’ve sowed my time and talents to the PE team, and have also traveled to Haiti on both trips. Now I will also run to raise funds for the work of rebuilding Haiti.
