Happy MLK Day!!!!! Every time we celebrate his birthday it allows me to reflect on the current state of the world. Each time I am never amazed as to how far we haven't come even with all the progress we have had.
A few days ago while in the workplace I had a new employee over hear a comment made by a long time company employee that blew my mind. This person was on the phone and made a comment about the color of the person that had just been hired. While this is hearsay, I found it to be very disturbing but not surprising. It just adds to the already apparent view for me that racism in some form is alive and well in America. One of the major things that Dr. King fought for was that people would be judged by the content of the character and not by the color of the skin. Now 40 plus years later this is still an issue. This was the person's first day and hadn't even been given the opportunity to prove herself and already prejudices are in play.
When will things ever be seen at face value? When will a person be judged by their actions and not their color? It may be wishful thinking on my part but I believe that it could happen in my life time.
Much Love
