I was recently texting with an acquaintance and they were indicating that they were unhappy with their work environment. Afterwards I began to think about a time in my life when I felt the same way. It was a small organization where the owner gave new meaning to the term micromanage. I recalled how while at first angry and frustrated about the situation, I eventually learned from it. Other thoughts came to me about the situation of many other acquaintances, friends and loved ones….unemployment, underemployment, sickness, depression and on and on. When I was in the bad work situation, I was strengthened by speaking the Word. During that time I spoke a spiritual warfare prayer EVERY DAY. So now, it easily comes to mind when needed. It gave me strength to stand. When it was time to leave, I stepped right out of there and never looked back.
Besides learning how to pray through a situation, I also learned how NOT to manage people. I learned about skills that I didn’t know that I possessed, and most importantly, I learned when to speak and when not to speak. This was such an important lesson for me, a person who formerly always got the last word.
Now when I encounter challenges, I know what to do, I start looking for the lesson and also I speak to the situation and I know it has to obey me. A beautiful song that encourages me is Speak Life by Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir. The lyrics begin, “Have you ever been in a dry place? Couldn’t show it on your face and you cry inside, Lord tell me why?” The song goes on to declare, “Night after night you pray, still nothing seems to ever change. Remember God's word is true, He knows the plan He has for you; by faith, this is what you must do. Just speak life to it, just speak life through it; knowing God’s not a man that He should lie. Just hold on to it, just go on through it; to every dry bone in your valley, just speak life.”
Take a listen and remember to Speak Life!
