It is that time again!
I am sure that the parents of graduating high schools students are either happy or dreading this time of year.
Wondering what time of season it is? It is the infamous PROM SEASON!
That's right moms and dads, I hoped that you have worked plenty of overtime and double-time because this is a major event in your child's life outside of graduating college and getting married.
I was listening to the radio and the consensus was that prom has lost it's flavor. More girls are coming with less clothing so instead of a "fashion show" it is turning into more of a skin flick.
Males and females were calling with various opinions about attire. "Young ladies should not have their belly buttons showing", "dresses should be below the knee", "heavy make-up and extra tall heels should be out of the question" and last but not least, "the overnight hotel stay! He** to the naw!."
I had to laugh as some described what they saw, but then I thought about it, and that is not too far removed from some of the outfits that I have seen. Is it the videos that they watch? The clothing that they see in stores? Or is it just that parents are too busy being a friend that they don't know how to say no to these dresses?
At the end of the day, putting on a scantly clad outfit can not only cause trouble but also unwanted attention.
So as prom season approaches, talk to your daughters, sisters, young ladies that you know. Let them know that they are more beautiful presenting themselves with class and not as trash.
Parents don't be afraid to tell your children no when it comes to the outrageous outfits. They may not feel the affects now, but they will when they look at those photos twenty years from now and wonder what they were thinking. When it shows up on Face book or other networking sites as they apply for employment and wonder why they did not get the job. When your children' children wonder why were you dress like that.
In a nutshell, prom night is short, but the long term effects last a life time.
