Just another update from a really proud Mom……My son is 19 now and he is in the Navy. He finished boot camp, he finished his turbine engineering school, and he passed his interview to go to Yokosuka Japan.
Now some of you might say what’s so great about that? Those of you that have children will be able to relate to my response. This whole Navy thing has been the very first time that I have witnessed my son show so much excitement and motivation! I spent last weekend with him and he shared his desire to go to Japan with me….he articulated such a clear well thought out plan that I almost cried.
Some parents are lucky in that they get to see all of what they are investing into their child pay off immediately by the grades they get in school or by their emotional well being. Some of us don’t get that pay off immediately and all we do is continue with the investment and pray.
Well, I have begun to see my investment!! Please don’t misunderstand me when I say investment because I’m not just talking about the financial portion. I’m talking about the molding, the rearing, the pulling your hair out, the constant reminding, the guidance, the unconditional love that you have for your child even when at any given moment you may not like them very much. I’m talking about the 24 hours a day seven days a week worry, the concern that you have made bad choices because things aren’t going well. I’m talking about the FEAR that maybe your child is going to become a statistic and not a good one.
If you could see me right now I’m dancing!! Not because I think my son is now going to live a perfect life….NO SUCH THING! But, now I'm beginning to see all of what his Dad and I poured in is actually paying off. I will still worry but some of that pressure has been lifted….I’m just a proud Mom that can’t stop grinning!!
