Sexuality is a very touchy topic in American culture. Though often used interchangeably with sex, it is actually very different. As part of my peer mentoring group, our group of teenagers were asked what sexuality meant to them. As the children were given time to think about their answers, us adults got together to discuss the project. It became very evident that we needed to participate in this project nearly as much as the teenagers. Usually when this group of 12 adult women get together to discuss a topic, there’s NEVER a moment of silence. I’m not sure if we were at a loss for words, too shy to discuss the topic or just truly ignorant to what sexuality means, but the room fell silent and remained that way. Realizing that it is impossible to define sexuality in a way that would speak for everyone, I would like for you to speak for yourselves.
What does sexuality mean to you?
