Last weekend I had the opportunity to go and see the movie Precious. Since I had not read the novel, I was very hesitant about seeing the movie. I had seen many previews of the movie and heard some commentary about it, but none of this prepared me for the movie.
First of all, let me say that the acting was AMAZING! That aside, I am not exactly sure how I felt about the movie. It was very raw and extended no soft blows. I shed so many tears in that theatre. I was appalled at some of the things that were happening to this young girl. Then it hit me, bits and pieces of this movie are a reality for so many young men and women in this world. It makes me thankful for the village of people that I have around me, but it also makes me very sad for those that have had to endure abuse, molestation, abandonment and hate. I pray that anyone facing these challenges come out as strong and triumphant as Precious.
