To internet date or not, that is the question!

I have lived in Minnesota now for a little over a year and really haven’t done all that much when it comes to dating. Actually, I haven’t done any dating at all since I’ve been here...LOL! I do get out and I go places but I am finding it rather difficult to meet anyone of the opposite sex that I’m remotely attracted to or interested in.

I told myself way back when that I would NEVER internet date and I am finding more and more that you just shouldn’t use the word NEVER! No, I haven’t tried it yet but I have been seriously contemplating the idea. I mean at least it will give me the opportunity to meet new people right??

I have a friend who is also a transplant and has been here probably 6-7 months and has been dating up a storm! She is now seeing someone exclusively and I think it’s rather serious. Now please understand I’m not looking for all of that…..but an occasional movie or a bite to eat with someone of the opposite sex would be kind of nice.

So this is aimed at those of you who have tried this whole internet dating phenomenon. I would love to hear your take on it. The verdict is not in yet for me, in terms of what I’m going to do, but maybe some of what you share will help me come to a decision.

  1. I have 2 comments for you. I've never done internet dating and have thought about it, but don't have the self confidence to pull it off so I haven't tried it.

My first comment - a friend of mine met the man of her dreams thru internet dating. I think they "met" on-line for almost a year before they met in person. It's been quite a few years and they are still together (they have lots of life happening so they haven't yet set a date, but there is talk of one being set soon). I have another friend that has gone on a few dates from internet sites. Some were good and some weren't. She did actually meet someone who she thought was Mr. Right, but turned out to be Mr. Wrong. I think the difference in these two examples is that the first ones took their time and actually get to know each other well before meeting and taking their relationship to the next level. That would be my advice...take it slow and get to know each other first.

My second comment is a site a friend suggested to me, www.meetups.com. In case you haven't heard of it, it's not a dating site, but is a site where you can hook up to meet other people to do things you don't want to do by yourself...like going to a play or going to a restaurant. I think that something like that is a good idea because you already have something in common and you meet in a group setting so less pressure.

    Good luck to you!!!
